Circled character symbols
Circled and parenthesized characters are numbers and letters that already come wrapped: ①②③, ⑴⑵, Ⓐⓑ. Each one is a single character, so a numbered list costs you one character per item instead of three.
That matters in a 150-character bio. Circled numbers also read as more deliberate than plain digits and separate list items visually, which is why they show up in menus, schedules and step-by-step bios.

Frequently asked questions
How high do circled numbers go?
① through ⑳ are reliably supported. Beyond twenty, coverage depends on the font, and negative circled numbers stop even earlier. For longer lists use the parenthesized numbers ⑴⑵⑶, which have broader support.
Some circled numbers show as boxes on my phone.
Numbers above twenty and the filled variants (❶❷) are the first to fall back. Lower numbers in outlined circles are the safest, and they are also the most legible at bio size.
